Giving an animal a forever home can bring joy, comfort and companionship to you, your family, as well as your pet.
Love is an essential ingredient to successful pet ownership. But for your pet to thrive and live their best life, you'll also need to make a time and financial commitment and provide a safe and stimulating environment.
Adopting an animal means committing to care for the animal until the end of their life. For cats, this could be for up to 18 years, for dogs, up to 13 years. Once you become a pet owner, there are also certain laws you must abide by. This is known as ‘responsible pet ownership’.
Not sure whether you’re ready to commit to a pet?
ADOPTION PROCESS - MAKING SURE ITS THE RIGHT FIT!
At BARC, we take the time to ensure that each animal is matched with the right owner. Each pet may have unique needs based on their background, breed, and health status. For instance, some may require being the only dog in the household, others might be active breeds that need specific training, or they could be on medication to maintain their health.
When you visit the facility and find an animal that captures your heart, one of our animal attendants will conduct a ‘meet and greet’ with you. You'll have a chance to spend some time with your potential new furry friend while the attendant asks you questions about your living situation, the time you can dedicate to your pet, and whether there are children or other pets in your home.
If the animal attendant suggests that the pet you've chosen might not be the best fit for you, please don’t take it personally. We assure you that this is in the best interest of both you and the animal in the long run!
